Ruth Morley

Ruth trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with David Nicholson, and won a coveted Wingate Scholarship to study with Peter Lloyd at the the Royal Northern College of Music. She also studied in London with Wissam Boustany. Prizes include awards from the Soroptamist International, the Sir James Caird Scholarship fund and the Hattori Foundation.

She is a founder member of the Scottish Flute Trio with whom she performed across the Uk and been involved in experimental work with composers and visual artists. She works regularly with Paragon Ensemble, and with John Harris and David Fennessy as SPKE. She has commissioned and premiered chamber works by many leading composers including Thea Musgrave, Edward McGuire, Peter McGarr, Joaquin Rodrigo, James MacMillan, Javier Alvarez, Gordon McPherson, Robert Dick and Kenneth Dempster.

Ruth has appeared at festivals in the UK and abroad as a soloist and chamber musician including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, St Magnus Festival in Orkney and the British Flute Society International Convention. Broadcasting work includes recitals for Radio 3, Radio Scotland and she has been a featured artist on Classic FM. She has recorded with the Scottish Flute Trio for the Metier Label, and most recently has recorded Madame de Shanghai by Luc Ferrari for www.seventhings.co.uk.

She is on the teaching staff at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
